A reminder to everyone, that our school concert is on next thursday June 16th. It's a little early this term, as the year 9's and 10's have work experience for the last two weeks of term.

Also worth mentioning is that next Monday is the Queen's Birthday public holiday and that next Friday June 17 is a student-free curriculum day.

SRCS 40th Anniversary in 2013

We know it's a while off... but in 2013, it will be the 40-year anniversary of Sydney Road Community School. Though pupils were enrolled in 1972, classes were held at Melbourne University while the Sunday School building at 350 Sydney Road was refurbished. In 1973 classes started in what is now our main school building.
We want to collect contact information for as many past Sydney Roaders as we can so that as many people associated with our school as possible can help us celebrate our 40th birthday.
So... pass the word around!! We have a book in the office where visiting ex students can leave their details. We will also have places on our school web site and on the school Facebook page for people to sign up.

If you'd like to be kept informed, email us, and request to be put on our mailing list: sydney.road.com@edumail.vic.gov.au

MAKINGtheLINK: Talking to Teens about Seeking Help

Research tells us that teenagers are not seeking help for their health problems when they need to, especially drug, alcohol or mental health problems. They tend to keep their problems to themselves or when they do seek help they turn to their friends or parents - people who often don't know what to do or say.

The MAKINGtheLINK parent session will be run by Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre. It informs parents what we know about young people's help seeking behaviour, why they are reluctant to see professionals for alcohol or drug problems and how to assist them to do so when they need to. It includes a DVD which models different approaches to talking to your teenager about their problems and seeking help.

There will be a Parent Information evening at SRCS : 6-8pm Thursday 19th May.

Hi all,

please check out the new school website, and log onto the Ultranet to join the SRCS community space... it's all still new to us, but hopefully when more people connect to it, we'll begin to see how to develop it into a meaningful and useful tool!

cheers,

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to you all with a special welcome to our year 7 students and others who are joining us for the first time. We are looking forward to an exciting yet challenging year ahead.

With Lyn moving into retirement and Tony Rogers taking some well earned Long Service Leave, the school community is losing a considerable wealth of expertise and dedicated service. Suzy Gilbert will also be missed having married and shifted to SA.

In the interim, Brian Considine will be acting principal, with the position advertised later in the year. We will also see two new graduate teachers arriving at Sydney Road, bringing with them bundles of enthusiasm and new ideas.

We welcome Eva Grzelinska and Melissa Alexander to the teaching team.

There remains six contact groups: Heather and Joanne (years 7/8); Matt and Mel (years 8/9); Kaye and Simon (years 9/10); Deb and Irene (years 9/10) Ralph and Eva (year 11) and Brian (year 12).

School Council.
We are looking for parents who are willing to be involved in School Council. This involvement might mean joining the council and attending monthly meetings or contributing to some of the council driven activities. Our council consists of five parent representatives, three
representatives and, at the moment, one Community representative.

Some Dates to keep in mind:
Monday March 8th - Labour Day holiday.
International Women’s Day.

Thursday March 18th - School Council AGM.
Friday 26th - Term 1 Ends

Monday April 12th -Term 2 begins.
